Condrieu is from the French phrase 'coin de ruisseau' meaning corner of the brook. The lieu-dit Les Deponcins is located close to Chateau Grillet, is made in very small volumes and is aged in 40% new oak, with lees stirring to add extra opulence. The DePoncins is Villard's top cuvee which typically has 10-15% botrytis on the fruit. This gives the wine roundness, richness and a waxy mouth feel. Formerly a chef, Francois brings his complex palate to the winery to produce wines of power and grace that can age for years.

About this Region

A land of stark contrast. North and South; syrah and grenache; plain valleys and impossible hills. Artisan wine makers and industrial wine facilities. Wines for now and wines of time and patience. Fascinating!
